The Phantom of the Opera (2004) USA/UK

One of my all-time favourites, Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera muscal, saw its best ever film version with Gerard Butler playing the Phantom and Emmy Rossum as Christine. Amazing experience to watch it in cinema, but also a great experience on DVD. A personal favourite. On IMDB

Beowulf 2007 (USA)

I think it is a really difficult task to transform an old Heroic poem dated between 8th and 10th century into a text, suitable to be shown to 21st century audience, and in the same time sticking to the story (as possible) and keeping the viewers' attention.
Beowulf's crew apparently did it. I had no high expectations about this movie, but I was impressed. Really liked the storytelling.
Not suitable for children though...
